Dr Jugal Shah is one of the senior ophthalmologists in Mumbai, who began his career in 1992. In 2002, along with his wife, Dr Jyoti Shah, he established Maa Nursing Home and NetraJyoti Eyecare Centre, bringing world-class eye care and gynaecology facility within the reach of all.
Given the high statistics of blindness in India and abysmal eyecare facilities, Dr Jugal Shah made it his life mission to provide the most advanced eyecare facilities accessible and affordable to a common man.
In his three-decade-long journey, Dr Jugal Shah has performed over 80,000 cataract surgeries. He has conducted successfully countless rare and challenging operations to help patients suffering from cataracts, glaucoma, squint and retina problems.
Having interned with well-known national and international doctors, Dr Jugal Shah honed his surgical skills to perfection. Today, his name is synonymous with excellence and precision. He takes less than 5 minutes to complete a cataract surgery. The reason is “Shorter the time spent in the eye, lower the chance of infection and complications”. Hence, his patients rarely encounter post-surgery problems. Besides cataract surgeries, Dr Jugal Shah is an expert in LASIK, an advanced ophthalmology procedure to correct eyesight (vision).
Kindness, compassion, dedication and hard work are qualities that he imbibed from early childhood and which he carries into his practice serving his patients, rich or poor.
Every year, Dr Jugal Shah travels to remote villages of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh to do free eye surgeries. Besides, he organizes free camps regularly in Mumbai to reach out to the poor and needy sections of the city.
Dr Jugal Shah is a bundle of energy and the driving force in Maa Nursing Home and NetraJyoti Eyecare Centre. He says I don’t get tired at the end of the day because I enjoy every bit of my work. As a person, Dr Jugal Shah is a sports enthusiast who enjoys the outdoors. He loves jogging, cycling, swimming and long walks in nature.
To sum up, in his own words, like the mythological Arjuna, he can see nothing but the EYE.
